Why We Feed Raw

At our cattery, we choose to feed a balanced raw diet because we believe it gives our Maine Coons the best possible start in life. Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning their bodies are designed to thrive on fresh, animal-based nutrition—and we’ve seen the difference firsthand.

Some of the benefits of raw feeding include:

Strong, Healthy Growth

Maine Coons are a large, slow-growing breed, and they need high-quality protein to support proper muscle development. A raw diet helps build strong, well-conditioned cats.

Beautiful Coats

Our kittens develop the thick, soft, luxurious coats Maine Coons are known for. Raw feeding supports healthy skin and that signature shine.

Better Digestion

Raw-fed cats typically have smaller, less odorous stools and fewer digestive issues because their bodies are using more of what they eat.

Natural Dental Support

Chewing on appropriate raw foods can help keep teeth cleaner and gums healthier.

More Hydration

Unlike dry food, raw diets naturally contain moisture, which supports kidney and urinary health—something very important for cats.

Overall Health & Vitality

We often see higher energy levels, better condition, and overall thriving kittens raised on a raw diet.

We take great care to ensure our kittens receive a properly balanced raw diet with all the nutrients they need to grow and thrive. 

Transitioning Your Kitten Home

Bringing your kitten home is an exciting time, and we want to make that transition as smooth as possible. To help avoid digestive upset, we recommend keeping your kitten on the same diet they are used to for at least the first month.

If you plan to continue raw feeding, we are happy to provide guidance on sourcing, portioning, and balancing meals. If you prefer to transition to a different diet (althought we do not recommend changing from raw) we strongly recommend you do so gradually over 7-14 days by slowly introducing the new food while decreasing the original diet.

Every kitten is different, and a slow, steady transition helps reduce stress and supports a healthy adjustment to their new home. We are always here for support and questions—before and after your kitten goes home.
